Kicking off Salamander Summer Music Festival 2026 is singer/songwriter Jan Ek!! Currently based in Alexander, Manitoba, is an entertaining artist with a vast and varied repertoire with nearly six decades of musical experience. From his first punk band in 1980 to his Juno nominated hard rock band Big House in the early 1990s he gained much national and international recognition. Shifting musical landscapes and unique personal challenges saw him busking in Montreal subway stations where he began to include interpretations of an incredibly wide body of work as a solo acoustic performer.
From reggae influenced takes on pop hits to high spirited romps and gentle balladry through indie rock, folk and country, Jan brings an emotional abandon tempered by a mature control of voice. This audio rollercoaster takes listeners on a journey through time and genre, both sentimental and forward projecting, and is as fun as it is reflective and thought provoking.
